Treasurer's User Groups

Josie,
There is a resource posted on the site that outlines the current and emerging roles of a treasurer (https://www.proformative.com/node/1037723 ).
LinkedIn has groups, but frankly none are very active with relevant "Treasurer" Content". We have a "Treasurer Connection" Group (https://www.proformative.com/og/treasurers-connectionon) right here on Proformative that you should join and you can ask questions to those within the group who are all Treasurers or Assistant Treasurers.
Also there are several associations to consider, but all cost money and some may not provide you the best ROI. I would be happy to discuss with you offline.
Please drop me an e-mail at [email protected]
Thanks for the presentation. I have already made a request to join the Treasurer Connection group and is waiting to hear from the group moderator.
Ernie did not mention the Association for Financial Professionals, but they are another good source for information on treasury
Hey Mark, thanks for your input and AFP can certainly be a good resource. I know so because I used to work there.
There are others as well, but like AFP they are not free.
Josie,
Not sure if you are a member of FENG (Financial Exectuvie Networking Group). They have a Treasury group led by Bruce Lynn. There is discussion on treasury matters there as well. If you are not a member, any one in your professional network (fellow controllers, bankers, auditors, etc.) who knows you and is willing to sponsor you can do so. There is no cost to membership. (www.thefeng.org).
In addition, if you just go to wikipedia and search for Treasurer, you will find lots of information as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasurer
See Corporate Treasurers section.
In addition, you should/could rely on your bankers as well.
I would like to note that "sponsorship" does not necessarily equal FENG membersship. I have a treasury colleague who has been nominated more than once by different FENG members and since he did not have "the right title" he was not granted FENG membership.
Josie,
I've been a member for 10+ years and co-chair the Leasing special interest group. FENG follows a pay-it-forward networking philosophy. It's a group for senior financial pros as evidenced by responsibility levels (frequently, that means title), age (40+ is the target) and comp (~$100K+). You've already been a
Matt Bud has chaired The FENG for several years and managed its growth from a few dozen members to over 37,000 today. He personally reviews credentials and signs off on all membership applications to assure fairness and consistency.
While I believe you will find the organization can be valuable (like anything, it depends on how much you put into it), there's no organized program along the lines of "this is what a treasurer does every day."
Good luck in your new role.
Josie, the bottom line is that you need many resources to assist you in your
