I haven't had my license since 1987. I was certified in Illinois. Anyone know if an inactive license will be restored after that long of a lapse? I have been employed as an
Restoration of CPA license after 25 years?

Not that you haven't thought of it, but it's best to call the state licensing bureau. I had a lapse in MA and the rule was simply to complete 160hours of CPE and certify that I hadn't done anything illegal. For getting the CPEs I used PESCPE (mypescpe.com) self study. You can go at your own pace the books are pretty good.
Thank you for replying!
Yes, per the restoration rules at the IL licensing bureau, it says if you're over 5 years from your past license, you may need "possible exam passage or committee review". I certainly don't want to retake the

Thank you for your reply!
Was this in IL or another state? Do you think I should have letters from employers for most of the 25 year lapse? May I ask what reason you gave for the lapse?
I got my cpes through cpexpress. It's sponsered by the AICPA.
Thanks for the tip, I just looked it up and signed up for CPExpress. I like it since it is sponsored by AICPA and is inexpensive for an annual subscription.
Outstanding result! Congratulations.
I haven't gotten a result yet, there are two anonymous individuals interacting. I'm the Anonymous that started the question. Mine is a Capital A in Accountant.
The other person has a lower case "a", "accountant".
I'd appreciate more input as I am still on the trek!
Thank you!
Call the State Board and inquire. I reinstated with PA, completing 80 hours of cpe. Each state will have different rules. Good luck!
Today, only three months from my first post titled "restoration of CPA license after 25 years?", I am happy to report that I did it! I got notice today that I am once again an actively licensed CPA.
I completed 200 hours of CPE-to overcompensate, I tracked employment history with personal reference letters for the past 25 years, and I filled out mountains of paperwork.
I also turned 50!
Let this be inspiration to all that it's never too late if you are willing to put in the effort.
Sue,
I'm in the same position as you were. I just submitted by restoration package on July 13, 2016. I have the requisite CPE and letters from three clients (what the IDFPR requested). Did it take three months from your submittal to get your license restored and was it three months include the time to obtain the required CPE, client letters, etc.? I'm trying to determine how long I may be waiting.
Hi Sue/Steven - I'm also in the same situation and plan to restore my license. Could I ask what details/reasons you provided for having let your license lapse?
