Sandra, first of all, congratulations! Second, there are too many quotes and cliches on leadership, but the THREE words I would tell you is EMPOWER, LEAD and OVER-DELIVER!
Empower your team....their success is your success.
Lead by example.
Underpromise and overdeliver.on the metrics your company expects from you and your team.
As you go up the corporate ladder, you will learn and experience other things and concepts like "big picture" and "strategy", etc. but I believe that these three foundation of leadership will help you well in your journey.
Be a good listener. Listening is really just observing, and much of business intelligence is being able to see the forest from the trees (with people, projects, etc). Remember that ultimately results are achieved through people, so the better a people manager you are, the better a leader you will be. Remember people have to know that you care, before they care about what you know. Good luck!
The first thing I do when leading a new team is to meet with each staff member individually and try to find out what they do and then what they "want" to do. I want my staff people to know that I want to help them achieve their "dream job".
Secondly, ask them what tools they need to do their jobs. One of your main jobs as a Manager is to remove roadblocks that keep your staff from doing their jobs in an accurate and efficient manner.
Third, have them teach you what they do. This will give you insight into what can be improved. Many staff members just put up with things in their job. By understanding their daily struggles, you will know why certain things happen and might be able to find improvements to the way they are doing things. Plus, employees respect a boss who are technically sound enough to do the staff persons job. Also, with only 2 staff members, there will probably be a time when you have to step in to get the job done due to vacation or illness.
Build Trust, Confidence and Mutual Respect.
Finally, once you have all this information, set standards and hold them accountable.
