Which skill sets do you feel are undervalued?
I'll start, diversity. Diversity in experiences, industries, company sizes, ownership. Most people feel that unless you came from their industry/sector you are unqualified to do the job.

How about the ability to walk around in the morning, or sometime during the day / week or even the MONTH to briefly greet and chit chat / interact with your team? As an outside consultant working on longer-term assignments, I'm amazed at how many Controllers / Finance Managers do NOT do this and their staff feels underappreciated and / or unnoticed on a daily basis. It's the little things, aka "people skills" or what one should have learned in kindergarten, that managers seem to have forgotten and are undervalued in the workplace. (HR and Sr.

The ability and commitment to install good, sound basic business management processes. By that I mean realistic (balanced) budgets, solid internal controls, enforcing accountability among the staff, consistency, integrity in the use of resources and discipline. Not sexy. Doesn't make you a hero. Probably won't even make you a finalist in a job search. Nevertheless, look at the root cause of any fiasco or catastrophe and you'll find the failure to do the basic things correctly.
Important skill? Focusing your team's activities in line with the strategy of the business.
Undervalued? Ensuring that your team executes activities in line with the strategy of the business.
LISTENING skill!
People and listening.
People skills and listening skills as well as competency and integrity/honestly.
Lots of managers do NOT know how to manage people.
Lots of managers' competency and integrity are questionable.
If you have those managers (or colleagues) that 'throw people under the bus', then it's time to look elsewhere.
Humbleness is WAY Undervalued. In fact, it's almost Non-existant and in life.
True humbleness not the Act of being humbleness yet still act like a jerk!
There's nothing wrong to apologizing and it's Not a weakness!
