@Jill T, I realize that your question regarding skills assessment test for potential leaders was “geared to” Director Level employees, but I would also ask: “why not leadership skills assessments for all levels of an organization?” Some employee’s results may surprise management, and score very high, which would encourage them in their career and professional growth planning, even to the Director Level. And, some folks who score well may have no aspirations or desire to be a leader or a manager (http://tinyurl.com/z4cc5nr).

Gentlemen: There are many types of leaders and many different situations requiring different leadership skills. I taught Leadership and Performance Excellence in an MBA program for years - and have written a Leadership book.

I also taught psychological testing years ago for several years. I do not believe there is any test that adequately or accurately measures leadership skills. There are those who think the Myers-Briggs does - but I disagree.

First you need to define what you need and want in a particular leader - and then you need to test - or measure - or interview - for those attributes.
