What is the best way to follow up after sending in an online application?

If your on-line application is to a person, an e-mail status request after a week is appropriate. If the on-line application is to a company...I have never found anyone that has figured out that answer. The moral of the story -- only submit when you have a name to associate with the posting, i.e. Recruiter or Hiring Manager.

Assuming you know the company, then use your network to try to find out who the hiring manager is and then work toward them.
