I contacted the health insurance company and they gave a go ahead as long as the contractor met all other requirements and company policy allowed it. I want to make sure this would not cause any issues with the contractor's status.
Is it ever appropriate to let a contract employee participate in benefits programs?

Hi Denise
You don't indicate if the contract employee is a true employee on payroll, or a 1099 contractor. It may be worth asking a local labor attorney to help clarify your state and federal compliance for this scenario. E.g any other similar "employees" where benefits are not offered?
