I am aware that showcasing one's work is as important as doing the work well, in a big organisation. I seek advice on how to showcase the work done well.

I have found that blogging or presenting at professional conferences can demonstrate how you are helping make your company "best in class" in your areas of responsibility. Also, if you recognize your colleagues for their accomplishments they will do the same, and possibly a "buzz" about your work will ensue. Your colleagues to become "cheerleaders" for your good work..
Knowing how to "toot your own horn" is an art in some sense. It does need to be done, but not as to take too much credit and look like you are stealing the limelight from colleagues or your boss. Being a big fish in a big ocean is much harder, at times people change companies to be a big fish in a small pond to move up in terms of title and where there accomplishments are more easily recognized both internally externally, and then return to the big pond to make a big splash. Anyone who says work hard and you will be recognized is not being realistic, in theory this should happen, but often it does not.
