Does Your Wellness Plan Work?
Answers
I know of one company that uses year over year improvement on health measures as part of biometric health plan that offers employees premium discounts. This is encouraging for at-risk employees to become low / no risk. Hope this helps.
So the employee gets an incentive as long as he shows some progress?
There should be a threshold set for the yr-over-yr improvement. If the measure for example is BMI then, moving the "needle" from 30 to 28.5 may be the threshold, it depends on the measure, demographics of the employee populations and setting realistic yet stretch targets for the program.
Has anyone seen programs that benchmark the healthcare claims over a 1-3 year period? Would be keen to hear a testimonial from a
Anyone doing this?
We have had biometric screening for a number of years. Now we have introduced premium discounts based on either A-All screenings in an acceptable range or showing 2-4% improvement year over year in a majority of factors. We have had some complaints about pre-existing conditions (high cholesterol due to hereditary factors).
This is something new that our company is exploring. This year will be our first year offering a wellness program. I am interested in seeing how it works. I have little knowledge of how these programs work, from what I have been able to ascertain most of the decision makers are unsure also, they simply know it is a great idea to have in place. Does anyone have helpful links they would care to share?
